MEET Brian

Lifelong Providence resident, Democrat, public servant, neighbor. Running to serve Ward 11.

Brian Guzman is a lifelong Providence resident who has spent his life in and around the neighborhoods he now hopes to represent. He went to Robert L. Bailey Elementary and Charles N. Fortes Elementary, then to Trinity Academy for the Performing Arts, a public charter school in the city, and then to the University of Rhode Island. For more than fifteen years he has called Ward 11 home, first as a renter and later as a homeowner, so he has seen this ward from both sides of a lease.

That shapes how Brian sees the job. Rent, trash on the street, a city department that never calls back: these are not abstractions to him. They are what he and his neighbors talk about on the sidewalk. He is running because Ward 11 deserves a councilman who listens, shows up, and gets an answer out of City Hall.

Brian has served as a Mayoral Advance for Mayor Brett Smiley, and the work he is proudest of is the quiet kind: helping residents and small business owners get real answers out of city government. Through Christian Community Church he has helped run food pantry distributions and deliveries, supported the media ministry, and led community outreach. He also tutors young people in the neighborhood.
