Meet Brian Guzman
Brian Guzman is a lifelong Providence resident, a Democrat, and a neighbor who has spent more than fifteen years in Ward 11 as a renter and then a homeowner. He knows what rent costs here and what city services look like here. He is running for clean streets, a council office that answers when you call, and housing working families can afford.

Priority 1
Clean Streets, Safe Blocks
Walk almost any block in Ward 11 and you will find a couch on the curb, bags somebody dumped overnight, a park nobody has cut in months. Other parts of this city do not live like that. Families here pay the same taxes and get less back for them, and that is one of the reasons Brian is running. He will fight for a real maintenance schedule for our streets and parks instead of whatever is left over once the rest of Providence is done. Faster pickup on illegal dumping. Contractors and city departments held to the dates they promised, in public, with someone's name on it. Safety comes from the same place. Brian wants lit streets, parks families use after dark, and youth programs funded well enough to stay open all year. He will bring residents, community groups, and public safety to the same table so prevention comes first and so neighbors here are treated as people to work with, not a problem to manage.

A Council Office That Answers
City Hall works fine if you already know who to call. Most people in Ward 11 do not, and what they get instead is a phone number, a form, and a shrug. Brian has spent years on the other side of that counter, including as a Mayoral Advance for Mayor Brett Smiley, walking residents and small business owners through permits, code violations, and departments that never call back. He knows which office moves and which one stalls, and he is not going to pretend that is normal. As councilman he will run the office as a service. Calls returned the same week. Requests tracked until they are closed out, not until they are logged. Departments held to their own timelines. Information available in the languages people in this ward actually speak at home, because a service you cannot understand is not a service. And he will be at the senior center, on the sidewalk, and at the kitchen table in March, not only in the two weeks before a primary.
Priority 3
Housing Working Families Can Afford
Rent in Providence has climbed faster than wages for years. The families who held this ward together through every hard stretch are the ones being priced out of it now, and Brian is not willing to watch that finish. He will back housing we can actually build and actually afford, real protections for tenants, and a path to ownership for the people renting here today instead of investors buying from three states away. He knows both sides of that lease. He rented in Ward 11 before he owned in Ward 11. Opportunity does not stop at the front door. Brian will push for public schools that get their fair share of the city's money and attention, and for the tutoring, mentoring, and youth programs he already helps run through his church. He will stand with the small businesses on our commercial streets, the ones that hire our neighbors and stay open when nothing else does. And he will treat homelessness as what it is, a housing problem this city could solve if it decided to.
